Beyond Engineering and Testing (BEYOND) is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician for our New Mexico and Midland office in Texas. CMT Field Technician will perform field sampling and testing of construction materials for transportation, energy, industrial, commercial and municipality projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field sampling and testing of soil, base, aggregate, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and masonry in accordance with established procedures and the standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with calibrated testing equipment.
- Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.
- Review testing records performed by other construction engineering technicians to assure compliance with requirements of established procedures.
- Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration in accordance with established laboratory quality management procedures.
- Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience are not required but preferred.
- Certification in one or more of the following areas is not required but preferred:
- ACI Concrete Field Grade 1
- TxAPA SB102 in soils and base
- TxAPA Level 1A and/or 1B in hot mix asphalt
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times.
- Ability to prepare reports and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required

Experience/Education Requirements
- Education: High school or equivalent (Required)
- 1+ year of experience working in a geotechnical or CMT laboratory on soil, aggregate, concrete and asphalt laboratory testing.
- Familiar with AASHTO/ASTM/TxDOT Geotechnical/CMT testing standards.
- Certification: TxAPA Soil and Base (SB101/SB201) and Aggregate (AGG101) preferred
- Possess strong oral and writing skills to effectively communicate between project team members and clients.
- Ability to read, understand and follow ASTM/AASHTO/TxDOT standards.

- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with 3 or fewer tickets in the past 3 years.

Beyond Engineering and Testing (Beyond) is currently seeking multiple Hot Mix Asphalt Technicians for our projects in Carlsbad, NM, Dallas / Ft. Worth, Texas & Round Rock, Texas. Hot Mix Asphalt Technician will perform quality control (QC) or quality acceptance (QA) sampling, testing and inspections of asphaltic materials for TxDOT, municipality, and aviation projects.

Job Duties
The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist’s primary responsibility is to assist the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to conduct geotechnical laboratory testing in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. This will include coordinating sample receiving, classification and characterization of soil properties; interpretation of assignment of laboratory tests; performing geotechnical laboratory testing (consolidation, swell, permeability, direct shear, unconfined compression, triaxial, CBR, etc.) in accordance with ASTM/TxDOT/AASHTO/USCOE testing procedures/standards, calculation of laboratory testing; and data entry into proprietary software programs. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager with: (a) lab equipment (b) maintenance/calibrations and (c) training log documentations, AMRL proficiencies and audits, the efficient and economical use of laboratory equipment and resources; review of test reports prior to submission; managing assigned laboratory personnel; and training technicians in the laboratory.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials, Geology or related majors required.
- Master’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Knowledge/experience in ASTM/TxDOT/AASHTO/USCOE geotechnical/material testing procedures preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with fellow staff and clients.
- Able to distinguish colors and shades of color for identification and analysis of soil/aggregate samples.
