Beyond Engineering and Testing (BEYOND) is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician for our New Mexico and Midland office in Texas. CMT Field Technician will perform field sampling and testing of construction materials for transportation, energy, industrial, commercial and municipality projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field sampling and testing of soil, base, aggregate, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and masonry in accordance with established procedures and the standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with calibrated testing equipment.
- Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.
- Review testing records performed by other construction engineering technicians to assure compliance with requirements of established procedures.
- Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration in accordance with established laboratory quality management procedures.
- Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience are not required but preferred.
- Certification in one or more of the following areas is not required but preferred:
- ACI Concrete Field Grade 1
- TxAPA SB102 in soils and base
- TxAPA Level 1A and/or 1B in hot mix asphalt

Job Duties
The Laboratory Technician will receive on-the-job training and be placed in a progressively increased role of responsibility, while maintaining safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Laboratory Technician’s primary responsibility is to perform geotechnical and construction materials laboratory testing on soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt samples in accordance with AASHTO/ASTM/TxDOT testing standards. The role includes reading and following testing standards accurately, recording and entering test data, communicating effectively with project team members and clients, and pursuing technical training and professional certifications as part of ongoing development.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
1+ year of experience working in a geotechnical or CMT laboratory on soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt testing.
Familiarity with AASHTO/ASTM/TxDOT geotechnical/CMT testing standards, with the ability to read, understand, and follow them.

Job Duties
The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer’s primary responsibility is to assist the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager in conducting geotechnical laboratory testing in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. This will include:
coordinating sample receiving
classifying and characterizing soil properties
interpreting and assigning laboratory tests
performing geotechnical laboratory testing (consolidation, swell, permeability, direct shear, unconfined compression, triaxial, CBR, etc.) in accordance with ASTM/TxDOT/AASHTO/USCOE testing procedures and standards
calculating laboratory test results
entering data into proprietary software programs
Additional responsibilities include assisting the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager with:
lab equipment maintenance and calibrations
training log documentation, AMRL proficiencies and audits

Job Requirements

Job Duties
The Staff Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Staff Geotechnical EIT’s primary responsibility is to support geotechnical engineering projects as part of a project team. This will include applying geotechnical field and laboratory testing knowledge to project work, working within construction specifications, testing standards and requirements, and communicating clearly with team members and clients. Job Requirements

The Construction Engineering Laboratory Technician will perform laboratory testing of construction materials and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. Responsibilities include:
Perform laboratory testing of soil, base, aggregate, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and masonry. All testing must follow established procedures and AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency standard methods, using appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment.

ROLE OVERVIEW
Beyond Engineering and Testing (BEYOND) is currently seeking a Construction Inspector/ highway technician for our north, and central Texas Group. In this role you perform testing and inspections in transportation projects. This is an entrance level position.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contact supervisor for priorities and deadlines.
Apply engineering principles and techniques to ensure construction compliance.
Conduct research and problem-solving.
Prepare, testing and inspection reports daily.
Inspect materials and construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Handle problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors, and field personnel.
Review correspondence and coordinate inspection schedules.
Advise supervisor of inspection activities and problems.
Calculate payments due to contractors or subcontractors for completed work.
Consult with project engineers and contractors’ superintendents on work progress and construction problems.
Oversee construction record-keeping activities and prepare reports.
Document work progress and issues arising throughout the project scope.
Perform other assigned job responsibilities.
BASIC/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Mexican citizen
0-5 years of experience in roadway, related facilities, and construction inspection, with knowledge of highway construction plans, inspection procedures, specifications, materials, and traffic control plans and devices, as well as source materials quality control, concrete mix design, sampling, and testing.
Civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or construction-engineering-related degree
Considerable knowledge of engineering fundamentals and calculations, as well as working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively convey work status, prepare reports and documentation and provide daily reports.
Proficiency in MS Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and personal computers, including applicable software.
Some knowledge of construction plans, inspection procedures, specifications, and materials, as well as material testing methods and procedures
Ability to obtain a driver’s license in Texas and ability to meet the firm’s auto insurability requirements.
Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles.
Reliable and punctual, with the ability to arrive at designated project sites before scheduled times.
Flexibility to work outside regular business hours when required.
Passing a drug test, physical, and background check, and having a satisfactory driving record by the Company’s driving policy
Able to study and pass American Concrete Institute certifications.
Able to study and pass Hot Mix Asphalt Center certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work.
Ability to lift 40 lbs. and move 100 lbs.
Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
