Project Engineer II – Construction Engineering, under general direction, assists in directing project office operations including construction inspection and material testing operations on transportation, energy, industrial, municipality, education and healthcare projects to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, and specifications.   • Perform field sampling and testing of soil, base, aggregate, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and masonry in accordance with established procedures and the standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with calibrated testing equipment.

Experience/Education Requirements

Beyond Engineering and Testing (BEYOND) is currently seeking a Construction Inspector I for the immediate placement on a mega TxDOT design-build project in Dallas/Ft. Worth and Round Rock, Texas. Construction Inspector I shall have minimum 1 year of experience in construction inspection and testing on highway and bridge projects. This position requires a candidate with effective time-management, written communication, planning, organization and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate has the ability to take initiative, work independently and coordinate efforts with multi-discipline teams. The candidate must possess excellent attention to detail and have the ability to produce high quality work under short time constraints.

The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist’s primary responsibility is to assist the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to conduct geotechnical laboratory testing in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. Job Duties

The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility and be required to maintain safety and quality standards on all work assignments. The Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer/Geologist’s primary responsibility is to assist the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager to conduct geotechnical laboratory testing in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. This will include coordinating sample receiving, classification and characterization of soil properties; interpretation of assignment of laboratory tests; performing geotechnical laboratory testing (consolidation, swell, permeability, direct shear, unconfined compression, triaxial, CBR, etc.) in accordance with ASTM/TxDOT/AASHTO/USCOE testing procedures/standards, calculation of laboratory testing; and data entry into proprietary software programs. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Geotechnical Laboratory Manager with: (a) lab equipment (b) maintenance/calibrations and (c) training log documentations, AMRL proficiencies and audits, the efficient and economical use of laboratory equipment and resources; review of test reports prior to submission; managing assigned laboratory personnel; and training technicians in the laboratory.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials, Geology or related majors required.
  • Master’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience in ASTM/TxDOT/AASHTO/USCOE geotechnical/material testing procedures preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with fellow staff and clients.
  • Able to distinguish colors and shades of color for identification and analysis of soil/aggregate samples.
  • Ability to lift soil or aggregate samples as a routine part of the job.
  • Works in laboratory/warehouse environment as well as outside under varying weather conditions.

Experience/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with 2 years of experience in civil engineering or related areas.

Job Description

  • Oversee/Evaluate site condition; develop project-specific geotechnical testing plan and proposal.
  • Arrange and oversee field drilling/logging, rock coring, and field/laboratory geotechnical and materials testing. This includes scheduling fieldwork, calling in underground utilities, and interacting with drilling contractors, field engineers and vendors.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering and reports on transportation, infrastructure and renewable energy facilities, including foundation bearing capacity and settlement analysis, TxDOT drilled shaft/driven pile bearing capacity calculation, slope stability analysis using GeoSlope, and MSE wall design and stability analysis.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering support during the construction phase, including foundation excavation, site dewatering, settlement monitoring, in-situ soil and rock treatment including chemical stabilization, pavement testing, and evaluation, etc.
  • Monitoring project budget and ability to update clients on project schedule.
  • Understand project related tasks and work on completing these tasks with little to no supervision. Effectively Communicating with management office, clients, coworkers, and subcontractors.
  • Develop engineering computation templates for geotechnical lab testing data.
  • Conduct quality review of geotechnical lab testing data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering calculations and lab testing reports to clients.
  • Technical training of laboratory engineering technicians on test procedures.
  • Perform other engineering/laboratory activities as required.
